Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Statement

This statement is made under section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps Scrap My Car Cornwall takes to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chain.

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Our business

Scrap My Car Cornwall is a family-run Cornish business providing free scrap vehicle collection across Cornwall. We are licensed by the Environment Agency (licence no. CBDL565174). We collect end-of-life, MOT-failure, non-runner and accident-damaged cars and vans, pay customers by instant bank transfer on collection, and notify the DVLA on the customer's behalf. We operate from Cornwall and employ a small local team.

Our commitment

We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking in any part of our business or supply chain. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our dealings and to ensuring there is no modern slavery in our own operations or in the businesses that support them.

Our supply chain

Our supply chain is short and predominantly UK-based. It includes:

  • Authorised treatment facilities (ATFs) and scrap metal processors that receive and process the vehicles we collect.
  • Recovery and transport partners where a vehicle needs specialist lifting or towing.
  • Our bank, for making instant bank transfer payments to customers.
  • Software, website hosting and email providers used to run the booking system.

Because we are a small, UK-based, regulated business working largely with other UK-registered, licensed operators, we assess the overall risk of modern slavery in our supply chain as low. However, we do not treat this as a reason to be complacent.

Our due diligence

  • We only work with licensed, UK-registered ATFs and reputable local recovery operators, and we confirm their licensing and business details before engaging them.
  • All payments to our customers are made by instant bank transfer — not cash — in line with the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, which itself helps reduce the risk of illicit, cash-driven activity in the scrap trade.
  • We do not use agency or gangmaster labour; our collection team are directly engaged and paid properly through our payroll.
  • We require our key suppliers to operate in line with UK law, including the Modern Slavery Act 2015, and to pay at least the National Minimum / Living Wage.
  • We keep written records of our suppliers so we can review them.

Risk assessment and management

We assess the risk of modern slavery each time we take on a new supplier or partner. Where a supplier presents a higher risk (for example a larger, less transparent operation), we carry out additional checks before working with them. If we became aware of any modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chain, we would stop working with that supplier immediately and report it to the relevant authorities.

Training and awareness

Our team are made aware of the signs of modern slavery and know how to raise a concern. This includes recognising signs of coercion or exploitation when collecting vehicles from members of the public, and understanding our zero-tolerance approach in dealing with suppliers.

Raising a concern

Anyone who has a concern about modern slavery in connection with our business — a customer, supplier or member of our team — can contact us in confidence at enquiries@scrapmycarcornwall.online or on 01209 699186. We take every report seriously and will investigate and act.

Review

This statement is reviewed at least annually and updated where our business or supply chain changes. It is approved by the business owner.
