Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our website and scrap vehicle collection service, why we collect it, who we share it with, and your rights under UK data protection law.

Who we are

Scrap My Car Cornwall ("we", "us") is a licensed Cornish scrap vehicle collection business registered with the Environment Agency (licence no. CBDL565174). We are the data controller for the personal information you provide through this website. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at enquiries@scrapmycarcornwall.online or on 01209 699186.

What personal information we collect

To provide you with a quote and arrange collection, we collect:

  • Your name, email address and phone number.
  • Your collection address (postcode, address line, town).
  • Your vehicle registration and details returned by the DVLA vehicle enquiry (make, model, colour, year, fuel type, MOT and tax status, and an estimated kerb weight).
  • Any notes, condition details, photos or short videos you choose to upload about the vehicle.
  • Your preferred collection date and time window, and any notes for our driver.
  • A requested price, if you have one in mind.
  • Your IP address, captured when you submit a request, which we use only to prevent abuse of the quote form.

If you submit a trade enquiry, we collect your contact name, business name, business type, address, phone, email and the volume and frequency of vehicles you expect to scrap.

Why we collect it

  • To quote and collect your vehicle — to identify your vehicle, confirm your address, agree a price and arrange a collection slot.
  • To pay you — payment is made to you by instant bank transfer on collection, as required by the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. We do not handle or store your card details.
  • To notify the DVLA — we complete the DVLA notification when a vehicle is scrapped, so the keeper record is updated and any road tax refund or direct debit cancellation is handled correctly.
  • To keep records we are legally required to keep — as a licensed scrap dealer we must retain waste transfer and vehicle destruction records.
  • To respond to you and provide customer service — including quote emails, booking confirmations, reminders and following up on any feedback you give us.
  • To protect the service from abuse — rate limiting and basic logging of the quote form prevent scripted flooding of our team.

Who we share your information with

We only share your information where it is necessary to provide the service or where we are required to:

  • DVLA — to notify that a vehicle has been scrapped and to look up vehicle details for your quote.
  • The authorised treatment facility (ATF) / scrap metal buyer — to process, weigh and pay for the vehicle we collect from you.
  • Our bank and yours — to make the instant bank transfer payment to you.
  • Our vehicle data provider (checkcardetails.co.uk) — to return vehicle details when you enter your registration.
  • Our email provider (Google / Gmail) — to send your quote, confirmation and reminder emails.
  • Our website hosting and platform provider — which stores the booking record securely while we provide the service.
  • Google Ads — measurement of how visitors find our site, so we can improve our marketing. You can manage Google ad personalisation in your Google account settings.

We never sell your personal information to third parties.

How long we keep it

We keep your booking record for as long as needed to complete the service and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations as a licensed scrap dealer (including waste transfer and vehicle destruction records). Enquiry records that do not result in a booking are kept only as long as reasonably needed for follow-up and abuse prevention.

Payment information

We pay you by instant bank transfer on collection. We do not process or store any credit or debit card details on this website. Bank transfer details are handled through the banking system in the normal way.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Ads conversion tracking (gtag) to understand which advertising brings visitors to us. We do not use cookies to identify you personally or to build a profile for sale. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Essential functionality (such as remembering your in-progress quote while you fill in the form) uses your browser's session storage only.

International transfers

Some of our providers (such as Google and our hosting platform) may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses, so your information is treated to a standard equivalent to UK data protection law.

Your rights

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to:

  • Be informed about how we use your information (this policy).
  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Have inaccurate information corrected.
  • Ask us to erase your information, where we are not legally required to keep it.
  • Restrict or object to how we use your information.
  • Receive your information in a portable format.
  • Withdraw any consent you have given (without affecting processing already done).

To exercise any of these rights, email enquiries@scrapmycarcornwall.online. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Data security

Booking records and personal information are held on a secured platform with row-level access controls, so only authorised members of our team can view the records needed to run the service. Public booking actions are protected by a unique per-booking security token. We do not expose raw technical error messages or internal system details to visitors.

Data breaches

If a personal data breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO without undue delay and, where appropriate, notify you directly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
